Summary:
This spine stabilization tool has been designed for use in small animal emergency veterinary care procedures when they present with potential spinal injuries. The device should aid in the reduction of movement and potential for further injury while diagnostic procedures and initial care are completed.

Development Stage:

Description:
There are currently no tools available commercially for external spine stabilization of small animals that present with a potential spinal injury. Excessive movement of the spinal column has the potential to cause increased damage beyond that of the initial injury. Therefore, it is important to stabilize the spine and minimize excessive spinal column manipulation during movement, medical evaluation, and initial care. This is not currently feasible due to the lack of a stabilization device, and veterinarians and other caretakers in these situations must use physical restraint and attempt to minimize manipulation of the animal. This device would align the standard operating procedures for animals with spinal injuries more closely to what is practiced in the human medical field.
Advantages:
• Stabilizes the spine and minimizes excessive spinal cord manipulations in animals with potential spine injuries.
• Aligns spinal injury standard operating procedures of animals more closely to that of humans.
Application:
Veterinary medicine, emergency veterinary medicine
