ISURF #
5530
Summary:
This splint is designed to support the natural motion and positioning of the hock joint (equivalent to the human ankle) of companion animals during both standing and gaited movements.
Development Stage:
Description:
The splint is designed to provide support for natural positioning and movement of the hind limbs in animals with musculoskeletal or neurologic conditions, thus allowing them to return to normal gaiting activities. Rigid components, consisting of moldable orthopedic plastics, are connected in an articulating manner with spring-like connections. Such connections allow for gaited movement while encouraging the rigid portions of the splint to return to the original position. This design allows for the joint movement required during typical gait but helps to return the limb and joint to an unflexed position, which helps the animal to have normal hind limb movement even if injured or in the recovery process.
Advantages:
• Lightweight and easy to place. |
• Provides support during standing and encourages natural movement during gaited motion. |
• Improves welfare of an animal after injury, and during rehabilitation and retraining of the animal's movement. |
