ISURF #
4384
Summary:
ISURF 4384 provides a method for the synthesis of base-free homoleptic trivalent neodymium alkyl complexes. Upon reaction with the Lewis acid B(C₆F₅)₃, zwitterion species that can act as highly active catalysts for the polymerization of butadiene are generated.
Development Stage:
Description:
ISURF 4384 provides organoneodymium catalyst purcursors and the method for the production of such catalysts, useful for the polymerization of unsaturated carbon monomers, such as butadiene. The catalysts are activated with the Lewis acid B(C₆F₅)₃, resulting in the generation of zwitterion species necessary for polymerization. Current commercial catalysts used for butadiene polymerization require neodymium carboxylates to be activated by aluminum alkyl compounds; ISURF 4384 utilizes aluminum alkyl compounds in lower quantities than mainstream commercial processes, thus reducing the cost compared to the expensive catalysts currently in use.
